On Feb. 5, Alconbury Elementary School celebrated World Read Aloud Day with an after-school event that invited students and parents to the school library for a combination of crafts, popcorn, and a virtual session with author and illustrator Nidhi Chanani.

The event featured a creative activity where families made paper bag crowns and decorated them while enjoying popcorn. Following the craft session, attendees participated in a virtual meet-and-greet with Chanani. During the session, she shared her journey as an author and illustrator, answered questions from students, and conducted a step-by-step drawing lesson.

"The event offered a valuable opportunity for students to engage with an author featured in our library," said Joann Fuller, the Alconbury Elementary School information specialist. "It also allowed students to learn about the creative process behind storytelling and illustration."

Many students were inspired by Chanani’s insights into her work. Students learned a lot about how authors and illustrators create books.  The event aimed to foster a deeper connection to reading and creativity, offering students and their families an enriching experience centered around literacy.
