From the Principal's Desk
This school year Alconbury Elementary School will be creating a new two-year School Action Plan (SAP) that will identify areas in literacy, mathematics, and our intervention services that we target as improvement opportunities. Our journey will begin with our faculty analyzing data from multiple sources such as our 3rd to 5th grade summative assessments, Kindergarten to 5th grade Reading Proficiency Tool scores, unit assessments in literacy and math, attendance and behavioral data, as well as many other data sources.
As a faculty will then use our findings to determine targeted areas then conduct a root cause analysis digging deeper to help us understand the primary causes for these underperforming areas. Our next step will then be to build goals and actions to address the targeted areas. Our final step in the creation of our SAP will be to generate SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound) goals. Each goal will have actions to improve our practices and metrics to monitor our progress toward achieving our SMART goals.
This arduous process is well worth the effort. It helps us see our areas of improvement for our students, make a plan to address these areas, and continually measure over the two year SAP cycle our collective growth. All this is done to ensure that our students are getting the best instruction and achieving to their highest potential.

Farewell for Now
Nurse's Note
Dragon Parents,
As the weather slowly begins to change, we are already starting to see the familiar signs of the season - stuffy noses, sneezing, and the sound of coughs around us. With flu season approaching, we would like to remind families that the local clinic is planning to hold flu vaccination clinics (“flu lines”) next month. The exact dates are still being determined, and we will share it with you as soon as it is available.
The CDC and the NHS, both recommend that every child of school age receive a flu vaccine, unless there is a specific medical reason they should not receive one. Annual vaccination can help reduce the likelihood of becoming ill with influenza and can also reduce the risk of serious flu-related complications and hospitalizations.
I would also like to remind families that vaccine non-compliance notifications were sent last month to families whose students were missing required vaccinations. Those notices indicated that parents were required to provide proof of vaccination within 30 days to avoid school disenrollment.
At this time, we still have a few students who remain in non-compliance status. If your student is missing a required vaccine, please contact the local clinic as soon as possible to schedule an appointment and complete the necessary vaccination requirements. Once your child has received the required vaccine, please make sure that updated documentation is provided to the school.
As always, if you have any questions related to health matters, feel free to contact Nurse Sandoval at Alejandro.sandoval@dodea.edu
