Teatime with the king's representative
The fourth graders at Alconbury Elementary School were delighted to host a special teatime for distinguished guests. After spending weeks learning about the traditions of teatime, including cultural customs, proper etiquette, and how to set an elegant table, the students proudly put their knowledge into practice.
Dressed in their finest attire, they warmly welcomed their guests, demonstrated impeccable manners, and enjoyed a delightful afternoon of tea and scones.
Alconbury Elementary School was honored to welcome several distinguished British and military dignitaries, as well as DoWEA Europe leaders, for this special event. Guests included Mr. Brown, Deputy Lieutenant to His Majesty the King’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire; Squadron Leader Sheeran; and Community Relations Advisor Ms. Jax. The school was also pleased to host Colonel Fleming, Commander of the 423rd Air Base Group, along with his wife, Mrs. Fleming.
As a wonderful surprise, the fourth-grade class was also joined by Dr. Brahaney, Dr. Ter Horst, and Ms. Grazak from DoWEA Europe leadership.
With the tables set and guests escorted to their seats, the fourth-grade class poured tea, enjoyed scones, listened to stories shared by their guests, and took time to appreciate these special moments with individuals who help shape their future.
During the event, several children eagerly shared how much fun they were having, and many discovered that they actually enjoyed tea. Dr. Brahaney, Dr. Ter Horst, and Ms. Grazak noted that the event was well planned and expressed how much they enjoyed engaging in conversation with the fourth graders at their table.
Colonel Fleming also shared that he greatly enjoyed speaking with the students and appreciated the opportunity to participate. Additionally, Mr. Brown remarked that this is an event he looks forward to each year.
The fourth-grade class did a tremendous job hosting this year’s teatime. Former students shared their excitement for the class, noting that the event was one of their favorite memories of their time in host nation class. Meanwhile, the current third graders are already looking forward to participating in this special tradition next year.
