Alconbury Elementary Launches First-Ever Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk
ALCONBURY, United Kingdom — Alconbury Elementary School proudly hosted its first Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk on Thursday, bringing together students, families and staff for a morning filled with movement, joy and community spirit.
The event was created and coordinated by School Nurse Alex Sandoval, who designed the Turkey Trot as both a new school tradition and a way to promote healthy habits while strengthening family engagement.
“These events help students feel parent support and boost their self-esteem, which in turn positively impacts their academic performance,” Sandoval said.
Students from UPK through fifth grade participated alongside their families, filling the school grounds with smiles, laughter, festive hats and spirited attire. Sunny weather made it a perfect day to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate wellness together.
Upbeat music kept the energy high throughout the run, and at the finish line the PTA provided a hydration station and snacks to keep participants refreshed. Cadets from the JROTC assisted along the route to help ensure safety, and Principal Scott Finlay officially kicked off the event with the starting signal.
“I do believe that we have started a new AES tradition,” Finlay said.
The inaugural Turkey Trot was a joyful success, and Alconbury Elementary looks forward to making it a longstanding tradition that brings families together while promoting health and wellness across the school community.
